Anzac Tributes

I aim to complete a scrapbook page around Anzac Day each year (25th April). This is one I completed last year. It’s a special tribute to a young man that I believe to be a second cousin 2x removed. Edward Alexander Strack

I found a simple black frame at Briscoes that is a true 12 x 12 inch (not the rubbish 12 x 12 from Spotlight that was actually 30×30 cm).

I have the decorative elements of the layout available as a pre-made kit for just $5. Add $2 for postage within New Zealand. You will just need to add your photo and journalling plus a 12 x 12 sheet of cardstock for the background.

This year I will research my great uncle John Coulson. He was born in Canada but visiting New Zealand at the time of the First World War. He was attested in Nelson in November 1916. Further details and pics to follow!

Another card that’s Just my Type!

This card uses some retiring products: the stamp set is Just My Type and I used Parakeet Party and Tahitian Tide along with Misty Moonlight and a touch of Lemon Lolly.

The stamp set is in the Last Chance Sale: only $30.60.

I had to make this fancy insert for my Ages and Stages card as there is an ink smudge under the big cloud!

Looking ahead to the end of the Annual Catalogue.

Before we know it, it will be time for the start of new year of creativity with the launch of a new Stampin’ Up! Annual catalogue on 1 May.

I really recommend purchasing any consumables you know will be retiring now… some things like re-inkers and cardstock can sell out very fast.

The retiring list has just become available. We already knew that the In colours 2022-24 will be going to make way for the newest fashion colours. So anything in Sweet Sorbet, Starry Sky, Orchid Opulence, Parakeet Party and Tahitian Tide will be unavailable after 30 April, and while stocks last. That means DSP, embellishments, ribbons, Blends and Markers, as well as the more obvious cardstock and ink.

The Last Chance Sale starts 9 April. Why no start your online wishlist now. Check out the PDFs of the sale prices and retiring products. There are some surprises! And remember everything is “while stocks last”

Techniques for February and March: Interactive Cards

The hardest part of preparing for these classes was narrowing down the options. There are so many amazing creative ideas out there! and these cards are so fun to make and also receive.

Finally I narrowed it down to a shaker card, a slider card and the hidden message card, above, for the February class

These techniques can be used for so many styles of cards, and steps them up to a new level.

In class we made 2 other cards: a slider and a shaker card.

In March’s technique class we will make three more interactive cards: two types of spinner card and a waterfall card. Here is one type of spinner you can make in class…

Book now for the class on Monday 25th March 7-9pm in my home studio. Just $20: you only have to bring adhesives (I also have basic adhesives available to purchase on the day)

Reach for the Stars Shadowbox card

I couldn’t quite believe how simple it was to make this funfold card. It looks very impressive on display with it’s layers of dimension, but it folds into a standard envelope.

I just need to edit the video and this tutorial will be ready to include in a mid-month newsletter (coming soon!)

Of course this design can be easily adapted for many styles and occasions. I think you will find it very versatile.

Out of this World

In the #loveitchopit workshop today, students made 8 cards from a simple cutting template. This was designed made the most of two sheets of 12 x 12 DSP. I completed 4 cards from my demonstration samples: two of these have the optional W popout funfold. You can see the popout in the video.

The papers stamp set and dies all come from the Stargazing Suite. Holographic speciality papers add sparkle. As well as cutting some planets from the DSP, we created our own planets with embossing blending and stamping. Lots of fun!

I also demonstrated stamping with Stazon ink on non-porous materials. I re-purposed something from our afternoon tea to create the shiny astronaut. Comment below on what you think I used… first correct guess will get some happy mail from me!

The next class on the calendar is the Techniques class on Monday 26th March. After the successful interactive card class last month, this will be part two of interactive cards. Spinner and waterfall cards will feature and so will the Stargazer Suite…

Stargazing this Saturday!

You may not know this about me, but being an impressionable child of almost 10 at the time of the Apollo Moon Landing, becoming an astronaut was my first vocation!

So when the catalogue came out last year, I knew that at some stage this bundle was going to end up in my virtual shopping basket! It has finally landed in my studio, and that is the bundle and DSP we are using in #loveitchopit workshop on Saturday.

You will make a total of eight cards with envelopes in the 2 1/2 hour class, using a simple re-usable cutting template.

Contact me now to book your place: class runs from 2 to 4:30pm Saturday 16th March in the home studio in Cambridge. Bring your basic kit with adhesives: everything else is provided. Just $35.
